Adwords – Part 2
I’m going continue talking about adwords in part 2 of my adword blogs. If you want to start reading from the beginning start with Adwords – Part 1. Here goes.
ADS
I touched on Ads a little bit, but let me get more specific. The formula is pretty simple: ad + landing page = search query solution. When someone is searching google for a solution to their problem and if your keywords relate do the searcher’s query it will lead to your ad on google or a google partner site.
When setting up an adgroup, many will first create the keywords for the adgroup. Many believe you should reverse this process by first creating your ad and then adding keywords that reflect the ad you created. The keywords need to be as narrow as possible so it only reflects your ad related to the searchers query. Many make the mistake of creating an adgroup and adding hundreds or even thousands of keywords to the adgroup. It is better to have hundreds of adgroups with keywords that are as narrow as possible reflecting the ad than to have one adgroup with hundreds of keywords.
Your ad should always call for an action — Sign Up, Buy Now, Subscribe today, etc.
FEATURES OR IS IT A BENEFIT
When writing an ad and/or creating a landing page (more on landing pages later), it is good to keep in mind features and benefits.
Features are pretty easy to spot. If you look at any car sales sticker on a car lot, they list the features. Think of a feature as a fact about the product: Color: blue, Height: 2 feet, Width: 6 inches, Color screen, 8 GB of Ram, etc (NOTE: I’m not describing any particular product here, just providing a list of features that you may see on some products).
A benefit is something the product or feature will DO. Basically the customer wants to know what the product will do for them, why will it make their life easier or better, etc. A trick that salesmen use is to list a feature than after it add “so” “to”, “will” to come up with the benefit. The color screen will be easier on your eyes. The 8GB of Ram will add more speed to your computer. The Widget height is so you can easily pack it for traveling. If you can talk about a feature and how it will benefit a customer, you may strike an emotional reaction which usually leads to the customer performing the desired action you want.
A lot of ads will be listed this way:
