I Love You
As a dating webmaster, I have seen the words “I love you” used too often and too freely in the online Asian dating world. It amazes me how two people can meet and within a few weeks are exchanging endearments. I’m told I’m an old fuddy duddy and that today this is acceptable in both the online and non-online dating world. I still think the words “I love you” is being used too early and too often during the early days of courtship.
This discussion usually leads to the “love at first sight” question. Can you fall in love with someone when you first meet them or not? I say not. I believe those who say they have fallen in love at first sight is being guided by their hormones instead of their emotions. It looks good, they get excited and before you know it they are interpreting their hormonal reaction as love.
I think time is the key ingredient to true love. You can be attracted to someone, but to know if you truly love them takes getting to know each other and that can only happen when given enough time to do so. As time moves on, looks are less of a factor in a relationship’s survival or not. Besides, if looks was all it took for true love, than there never would be any Hollywood breakups.
So call me a fuddy duddy, old, close minded, or whatever, but true love only happens when you give it time to grow.
